A hallowed day in Texas history.
March 6, 1836. A Mexican force of about 1500 men overruns The Alamo Mission in San Antonio. About 200 Texians are killed in the attack or executed afterward.
Mexico’s victory is short lived. The Alamo becomes a rallying cry for the Texian forces under Sam Houston. On April 21, they route General (and President) Santa Ana’s troops at the Battle of San Jacinto, leading to Texas becoming an independent republic.
Even today, the Battle of The Alamo is a hallowed event in Texas history.
