Clay Allison.

Clay Allison built a big reputation as a dangerous gunman.  But there were times when he was strictly out of control and didn’t hit the intended target.  In the fall of 1871, he tried stealing some government mules from Fort Union, New Mexico Territory.  Allison had done the same thing six months before—this one didn’t work out as well.  Soldiers ran to stop him. Clay pulled his gun, and accidentally shot himself in the foot.  He made his escape but walked with a limp for the rest of his life.
