Tom Mix dominated in the 1920s.
The 1920’s was an age of superheroes like Babe Ruth, Red Grange, and Charles Lindbergh. But perhaps the greatest superstar of them all was Western actor Tom Mix. Born in Pennsylvania in 1880, he later headed out to Guthrie, Oklahoma where he worked as a bartender and played semi-professional football. The Miller brothers saw him and hired him as a trick rider for their Wild West show. Soon, he was in Hollywood, making $17,500 a week in the 1920’s. He eventually made 300 silent films and nine talkies, the great action pictures of the times.
