Tom Folliard cashes in his chips.

December 19, 1880. A posse led by Pat Garrett encounters Billy the Kid and friends at Fort Sumner, New Mexico. Shots are fired before the outlaws get away–except for Tom Folliard, who is shot in the chest. The lawmen move him into the post hospital to await his end. Tom is in terrible pain and asks Garrett to put him out of his misery. Deputy Barney Mason reportedly replies, “Take your medicine, old boy, take your medicine.” Tom says, “It’s the best medicine I ever took.” He dies within minutes.
