Gunman Joe Lowe had an ignominious end.

Rowdy Joe Lowe came by his nickname honestly, by being a hellraiser, a gunfighter and a saloon owner in various Western locales. His reputation spelled the end of him. On February 11, 1899, he was drunk in Denver’s Walrus Saloon. Joe began cussing out and threatening another customer (and off-duty cop) named Kimmel. The latter knew Lowe to be a dangerous man, so he wasted no time in pulling his pistol and shooting Joe to death on the spot.  It turned out that the dead man was unarmed. But Kimmel claimed self-defense and was acquitted.
