The Attach on Olathe

Quantrill’s first Kansas raid was a success.

Quantrill’s Raiders are best known for their attack on Lawrence, Kansas during the Civil War. But a year before, their first raid was on the Kansas town of Olathe. It was September 6, 1862 when the force attacked. About a half-dozen citizens were killed and many others wounded. Most of the buildings were damaged or destroyed. And before they left, Quantrill’s men gathered the townsfolk in the square and robbed them of any money or valuables they carried. The bushwhackers got safely away afterward.
