Jack Langrishe’s establishment was used for more than entertainment.

Jack Langrishe was “just” an actor and producer—yet he played a vital role in the early history of Deadwood. His theater was an important entertainment center for the region. But the size of the building made it suitable for other events as well. The first murder trial of Jack McCall for the killing of Wild Bill Hickok was held at Langrishe’s in the fall of 1876. The locale’s first wedding was held there in August 1876. And the theater was also the meeting place for the local Odd Fellows fraternal group.
