The Street Fight Begins

October 26, 1881. As the Earps near the Cow-boys in a Tombstone empty lot, Doc moves into the street, holding the shotgun Virgil had given him. Wyatt Earp sees Frank McLaury and Billy Clanton make their moves. Wyatt draws his pistol and shoots Frank in the stomach. He falls backward, clutching his wound. Billy hurries his shot and misses. Ike Clanton runs up to Wyatt, claiming he is unarmed and doesn’t want to fight. Wyatt glares at him. “This fight has commenced,” he says, “Go to fighting or get away. “Ike turns and runs; he may have blocked Frank’s shot, inadvertently saving Wyatt’s life.
