Independence is near after San Jacinto.
April 21, 1836. Sam Houston and a force of about 900 Texians surprised the Mexican army (around 1300 men) under the direction of President Santa Anna at a place called San Jacinto. It was a rout, over in about 18 minutes. Nearly half of the Mexicans were killed (only 11 Texians lost their lives) and Santa Anna was captured and surrendered to Houston. It paved the way for Texas independence.
