The Under The Bed Shootout A Tombstone fight like no other.

A 1908 gunfight was one of the most unusual in Tombstone’s history.  On June 20, Marcello Mendez shot a woman three times in a local house.  The gunfire caught the attention of Marshal George Bravin and one of his deputies.  They entered the building and found Mendez hiding under a bed. The lawmen crouched down; both sides opened fire from their awkward positions.  Mendez died from bullets to the head and heart. The officers suffered only powder burns from the up-close shootout. The woman also survived. Bravin died in 1918 and was buried in the Tombstone Cemetery.
