Clara Spalding Brown is one of the most important chroniclers of Tombstone during its heyday. She and her husband moved to town in 1880, and almost immediately she submitted correspondence to the San Diego Union newspaper. She was not impressed, immediately, calling it the “dirtiest place in the world.” But he views mellowed over two years. Still, she was shocked by the street fight of October 26, 1881 (as were many). Brown provided some of the early accounts of the incident.
