The story begins after he was shot in the head…
David Lunt’s shooting is one of the more interesting ones in the West. In January 1877, he was accidentally shot in the middle of the forehead in a Deadwood bar; the bullet exited from the back of his head. The injured man amazed all by getting up and walking away, as if nothing had happened. And that continued for two months—until Lunt began complaining of headaches and died on March 27. The man who shot him had already been found guilty of assault. He was rearrested but how the case was resolved is unknown.
