Dave Rudabaugh and company are foiled by a night operator.

January 28, 1878. Dave Rudabaugh and a handful of hard cases try to hold up the depot and a train at Kinsley, Kansas–a few miles away from Dodge City. An alert night operator foils the plot. Ford County Sheriff Bat Masterson and three deputies–including J.J. Webb–go after the outlaws, who’ve split up. They catch Rudabaugh and another man; the others are arrested within a couple of months. Rudabaugh gets off by testifying against his “pals.”
