Early in 1901, Yuma (AZ) Constable H.H. Alexander was sent to serve papers on local farmer J.J. Burns. Instead, the lawman shot and killed Burns’ wife. Alexander was arrested, tried and convicted of murder in the case. He was sentenced to life in prison at the Yuma penitentiary. He never made it that far.
On April 9, while being taken from the local courthouse to the prison, Alexander was shot and killed by a sniper who was positioned in a nearby building. Nobody was ever arrested in his murder.
