The Angel of Tombstone–Nellie Cashman

Nellie Cashman was known as the Angel of Tombstone for her compassionate ways.  In 1884, she ministered to the men responsible for the Bisbee Massacre, in which four innocent bystanders were killed.  She prayed with them in jail, brought them food and other items.  She helped tear down a private grandstand built for people to watch their hanging.  There were also rumors that medical students planned to steal the bodies for lab experiments. Cashman told the doomed men that there was no truth to the stories—but also arranged for guards to protect the graves after they were buried.
