Papers said he died in a Texas gunfight.
It’s a lesser-known gunfight in the life of Doc Holliday. He was gambling in the West Texas town of Breckinridge. On June 30, 1877, he got into an argument—topic unknown—with saloon owner and fellow gambler Henry Kahn. Doc attacked Kahn with a walking cane. Kahn then pulled a gun and shot the erstwhile dentist. Early reports said that Holliday died from his wounds, but they were wrong. Kahn, in the meantime, was acquitted by a jury on the grounds of self-defense.
