Two miscreants were strung up above the tables.
By 1880, “Russian Bill” Tettenborn had taken up residence in Shakespeare, New Mexico. Bill fell in with the rough crowd, including a small-time outlaw named Sandy King, and in a show of bravado, stole a horse. Bill was arrested by Grant County deputy sheriff, Dan Tucker. The folks in Shakespeare were fed up with the outlaws and decided to make an example of King and Tettenborn. They were taken to the dining room of the Grand Hotel and hanged from a cross beam.
