Fort Concho Cannon Fire

Experience the life of Army officers and their families on a frontier post on Saturday, March 6 at Historic Fort Concho in San Angelo. Officers’ Quarters 6 will come to life with the sight, sounds, and smells of the frontier as our living historians bake 19th century recipes, play music, and gather safely to tell stories of what life was like for these men and women.

Celebrate the heritage of the United States Cavalry at Fort Concho National Landmark April 22-24 when dozens of riders in period uniforms will compete on courses set on the site’s historic grounds. Drawn from many active forts with memorial units and civilian competitors, the sights and sounds of the old horse cavalry will live again with contests in riding, jumping, pistol and saber skills plus military and combat horsemanship. Sponsored by the United States Cavalry Association, this Regional Cavalry Competition takes place on the grounds of one of the best-preserved frontier forts west of the Mississippi, just south of downtown San Angelo, whose 40-acre site features eleven buildings open daily with period interiors and special exhibits.

Finish the weekend with Frontier Day set for Saturday, April 24, a fun, free, family day. The only charge is for the Lions Clubs of San Angelo Pancake Breakfast that takes place outside. Munch on tasty pancakes and sausage and have a front row seat and hear great music and watch the cavalry completion, sheep dog trails, sheep shearing demonstrations, 1800s baseball, and artillery firing. Vendors and crafts demonstrators line the south side of the fort and all buildings are free all day.
