Eli Wallach

The late character actor Eli Wallach was offered the role of Tuco in The Good, The Bad And The Ugly because of his work four years earlier as Charlie Gant in How The West Was Won. Director Sergio Leone saw similarities in the characters.

Wallach had never seen Leone’s earlier Spaghetti Western work. So Leone showed him the opening credits to For A Few Dollars More, where gunshots punctuate the theme and leave bullet holes in the names.  Wallach asked when he would start filming and left for Rome two weeks later.
