Annie Oakley gains world-wide fame with Buffalo Bill.
In April 1885, sharpshooter Annie Oakley joined Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show. She’d already built a bit of a shooting reputation in various parts of the U.S., but her new position made her an international star. She traveled across the country and was part of a tour of Europe. Oakley’s audiences including presidents, royalty, and thousands of average people who were captivated by her talents and her charisma (packed into a frame of just five feet tall). In 1901, she left the show after being badly injured in a train accident.
