Spring in the Wild West is a season for fresh starts and bold adventures. When the mountains shed their winter white for a coat of colorful greens and golds, we trade in our snowmobiles for saddles and reacquaint ourselves with the unforgettable equine trails of the Shoshone National Forest — known around these parts as the “horse forest”. The untamed Wyoming wilderness bursts forth with new life in spring, from canopies of cheerful green to some of the best wildlife watching we’ll see all year. It’s when we greet the return of the “red dogs” — playful bison calves who totter out on unsteady legs to romp, feed, and explore their world.

Cooler temperatures and thinner crowds also make springtime one of Cody Yellowstone’s best-kept secrets: a time to get up-close-and-personal with world-famous attractions like the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, or immerse yourself in gunslinging history (and even turn the crank on an authentic 1863 Gatling Gun!) at the Cody Firearms Experience. From sweeping vistas and untamed wilderness to legendary locations and mythic Old West figures, spring in Cody Yellowstone offers saddlebags of adventure.
