The Conner family had been running roughshod in east Texas for several years when Texas Rangers went after them.  In late March 1887, the two groups ran into one another and opened the ball. Of the six Rangers, one died and three (including John Rogers, in photo at left) were seriously wounded before driving off the outlaws.  One of the Conners was also killed, another hurt in the firefight.  It was one of the bloodiest fights in Ranger history.
