More than 1,000 people stood in the snow outside the historic Sheridan Inn on January 28 to celebrate the town being named True West’s #1 True Western Town of the Year.
Local entertainers included the 7th Cavalry Drum and Bugle Corps, Fort Phil Kearny’s Frontier Regulars, Native American dancers Joe LaForge and Shelly White Bear, and the New Sheridan Cornet Band, which performed 1880s-era music for the grand finale. Executive Editor Bob Boze Bell presented the town with a statuette, which will be on exhibit at the Wyoming Information Center museum. Renovation work continues on the historic Sheridan Inn, where Buffalo Bill Cody auditioned acts for his Wild West show. Soon, Sheridan’s citizens will have something to show for the million dollars they raised in 2005:the history museum is expected to open this year.
