Texas Ranger from the Frontier Battalion
Texas Rangers from the Frontier Battalion

Jesse Evans and his gang acted like they were headed to Mexico in early July 1880.  But it was a fake, trying to fool the law. The outlaws turn and head northwest of Presidio, TX. A patrol of Texas Ranger from the Frontier Battalion (photo) is hot on their heels when Evans and company open up on them.

A running gunfight ensues, covering about a mile before both groups dismount and continue the battle.  Eventually, Evans and his pals surrender after one of the gang members is killed. A Ranger also dies in the fight.
