The promise of nostalgia and biographical information about our heroes, heroines, heavies and sidekicks of the B-Western film era never quite materializes in this big book. It is simplistic and amateurish in textual content, and it is grammatically embarrassing to the point of distraction. It evidently was never edited by anyone who knew even a little bit about writing and punctuation. The book’s salvation, however, is found in Williams’ admiration of the old-time movie cowboys as well as his impressive offering of 220 full-page photographs, all of which makes me want to excuse everything else. —Chuck Lewis
