j-a-johnstone_kid_morgan_west-bound-settlers_wagon_trailYou’ve read it before: the unknown rider comes to a nameless town.

In this J.A. Johnstone tale, our unknown owns up to being a Kid Morgan, following the usual trail of vengeance, this time for the murder of his wife. Kid is a rider of independent means; neither a drover or a lawman, his stake consists of a fabulous inheritance of railroad stock, with his character composed of a gunslick father and a dime novel makeup. With all the wide land before him, the loner joins a party of westbound settlers moving through Apache country. They are naturally attacked, but with the inept aid of the U.S. Cavalry to lengthen this tale—allowing the loner to pack away his continuous trail of vengeance—he rescues the wagon trail women and sees them to the promised land. Just another job for the unknown.
