The continuing saga of the Lewis Clan finds the clan’s tenacious hold upon the vastness of Texas about to be put to the test.
Even though 10 years have passed since their father Mordecai’s tragic end, neither Michael nor Andrew have changed much. Michael is as fiddle-footed as ever, with Andrew married to the land alone. Despite it being spring planting time, Michael roves westward while Andrew travels to San Felipe, bent on consulting with the American Alcalde Stephen Austin about troublesome renegades such as the disreputable Blackwoods. Then, with the suddenness of a prairie storm, raiding Wacos run off horse herds while a massive uprising of land raiders threaten a war of white against white. Kelton’s feel for vanished Texas is superb, while his indominatable Austin is downright memorable.
