This mystery is centered around an actual 1870s land scheme in which an Englishman named Lord Dunraven and his cohorts fraudulently acquired hundreds of thousands of acres around Estes Park, Colorado. A resident of this community, named Rocky Mountain Jim, got wind of the scam but was soon murdered.
A manuscript written by Jim, in which he might have named names, disappeared shortly after his death. Now, 130 years later, college professor, writer and amateur sleuth David McIntyre takes up the cold trail. The Tobermory Manuscript’s complicated plot featuring many suspects will keep ardent Mystery readers burning the midnight oil. —Phyllis Morreale-de la Garza
