John Wayne

John Wayne almost made an appearance in the comedy Western, Blazing Saddles.

Director Mel Brooks was eating lunch in the Warner Bros. commissary one day—and the Duke was at the next table.  Brooks offered him a role (either a cameo or as the Waco Kid, depending on the story).  Wayne read the script and turned it down, saying it didn’t fit his screen image.  But the actor promised he’d be the first in line to see the movie.

It’s not clear just what the Duke thought of the final product.
