Canadian Paul Gross is an actor, director, songwriter, producer and screenwriter, but Americans will recognize him primarily as Darryl Van Horne in the current ABC series Eastwick, a part originally played by Jack Nicholson in the film version of John Updike’s novel, The Witches of Eastwick.

Gross is also about to star as the Montana Kid in Gunless, a Western Comedy movie about a legendary American gunslinger who finds himself in a small Calgary community, Barclay’s Brush, and who can’t seem to inspire the local blacksmith to draw against him. Apparently, not a single working handgun can be found in the entire town. The picture features a lot of strong talent, including busy British actors Sienna Guillory and Callum Keith Rennie, and the production values look solid, so Gunless may turn out to be one of the best Westerns of 2010.

The picture is scheduled to release in the spring. In the meantime YouTube offers several short features and a trailer. You can also check out these better-than-average interactive websites: Gunless.ca and BarclaysBrush.com.
