About a dozen members of the Reno Gang—headed up by brothers John, Frank, Simeon and Bill Reno—robbed an Ohio and Mississippi train near Seymour, Indiana, on October 6, 1866, looting the American Express car of some $10,000.
Later, the gang’s Marshfield train robbery netted them $96,000. In terms of ill-gotten earnings for a single heist, the Reno Gang is ahead of the notorious James-Younger Gang ($60,000 in the Liberty, Missouri, heist) and Dalton Gang ($2,500 in the Lillietta, Indian Territory, heist).
