Bitter Creek Newcomb and Charley Pierce

Bitter Creek Newcomb and Charley Pierce learned the hard way about being careful where they lay their heads.

On May 2, 1895, the Doolin Gang members went to the home of the Dunn brothers, who had been helping the gang, outside of Pawnee, OK.  Sometime in the night, the Dunns shot the outlaws in their sleep.

The next morning, the Dunns loaded the bodies on a wagon to take to town and claim the reward.  Newcomb reportedly came to, asking for water—and one of the brothers finished him off with another bullet.
