Michael Gambon is best known for playing Albus Dumbledore in six of the Harry Potter movies. But in 2003, the year before he took over that role, Gambon did something totally different.
He was cast as Denton Baxter, a strong-man town boss and rancher who tries—unsuccessfully–to destroy Robert Duvall and Kevin Costner’s cattle drive in Open Range.
It’s the only Western Gambon has taken on in his 50-year career (for which he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth). The role did allow him to use his native Irish accent.
