Colorado had its share of hard cases—from Jack Slade to cannibal Alferd Packer to conman Soapy Smith—and their true stories are fascinating.
A lot of books do a good job in recounting those stories—but this isn’t one of them. The author mixes the facts with the legends; readers will have a hard time figuring out which is which. And it’s just plain wrong on some things—such as calling gunmen Clay Allison and Luke Short robbers and outlaws. Save your hard-earned cash and put it toward something better.
