This famed Apache left historians with little written record with which to study his life.
Although Dan Thrapp’s biography adequately utilizes Apache stories and mythology to explain the warrior, this much updated biography takes full advantage of modern historical techniques, especially oral history. That said, and even in appreciation of her contemporary techniques, Chamberlain doesn’t add that much to Thrapp’s earlier work. Victorio, however, is a fascinating personality well worth a read, and this book handles his campaigns and life very well.
