AGES 10-13: Adventures in the West is an anthology of stories of the West that range from Indian legends to a story by L. Frank Baum (creator of The Wizard of Oz) about an old woman’s first trip by car to a county fair.

Each story opens with an introduction written by the editors which gives the reader background information about the writer and the subject. Suitable for fifth through eighth graders, these stories would be especially exciting if read aloud, thus keeping with the oral tradition of Western storytelling. The various writing styles and authenticity of subject matter make these stories an excellent way to introduce students to American West culture.
