Colorado’s storied past has more than a few stained pages.
One such stain is the Japanese concentration camp in Amache. During WWII, Colorado Gov. Ralph Carr worked for justice and fairness toward the detained Japanese. In this timely account, Hosokawa deals with the history of the Japanese leading up to and including Amache, with personal accounts of many of the detainees. Hosokawa then recounts the lives these courageous people went on to lead following the war. Colorado’s Japanese Americans is a great accomplishment for Hosokawa, and an excellent book.
