Texas’ Mannen Clements (photo) was a rancher, feudist, gunfighter—and cousin of John Wesley Hardin and father-in-law of Jim Miller.
He could be a hardcase while drinking—as he was on March 29, 1887. Ballinger Marshal Joe Townsend approached Clements in a bar; an argument ensued, probably over recent election results. The men went for their guns and Mannen was fatally wounded.
Soon after, Townsend was blasted out of the saddle while riding home one night. He ended up losing an arm
