In cattle­crazy W.T., where brands were sacrosanct, it all started with a woman! The first registered cattle brand in Wyoming Territory was owned by Eliza A. Kuykendall, wife of Judge William L. Kuykendall of Cheyenne. It was a “rolling M” that later was transferred to the Wyoming Stock Growers Association and became the official mark for mavericks.
