The 2004 meeting of the Western Outlaw-Lawman History Association (WOLA) was gathered in Utah and listening to two historians.  Not just any historians. Harv Murdock was grandson of Wild Bunch member Elzy Lay (see photo). Larry Reno’s grandpa William was a railroad detective.  The two ancestors were involved in a shootout at New Mexico’s Turkey Creek Canyon in September 1897 after a train robbery. The gunfight was something of a draw, although Lay was wounded and later captured.  Murdock
