Western art of the 1920-30s somehow awakens a degree of nostalgia in all of us, and there is plenty of it here.
Artist Remington Schuyler (1884-1955) painted or illustrated everything from Boy Scout handbooks to the exciting covers of early Western pulp magazines. His art influenced the perceived images of heroic cowboys and brave women of the West, and many of his covers and miscellaneous pictures are exhibited in this volume. Also included in Schuyler’s biography are excerpts from some of his personal letters from South Dakota in 1903 when he worked as a ranch hand and at a trading post on the Rosebud Indian Reservation. Valuable insight can be found in these letters. All in all, this biography is a satisfying read and should please aspiring artists and art historians alike. —Chuck Lewis
