It took Alameda County (CA) Sheriff Harry Morse (in photo) two tries to take down gunslinger Narato Ponce. Ponce was wanted for murder when Morse and a posse cornered him on the night of November 1, 1867.  A shootout ensued; the outlaw was hit several times before escaping in the dark. The lawmen renewed the search.
