Sheriff William Brady, assassinated by Jim French

Jim French is one of the most mysterious members of Billy the Kid’s Regulator gang.

Where he came from and what happened to him?  Nobody knows.  There’s no known photo of him, either. But he was involved in several affrays during the Lincoln County War.  He was one of the shooters who assassinated Sheriff William Brady (in photo) and Deputy George Hindman on April 1, 1878.  French and Billy ran to the bodies; another lawman opened up and severely wounded Jim.

Not that severely.  Three days later, he participated in a gunfight at Blazer’s Mill.
