Bub Meeks and Butch Cassidy

Bub Meeks was like Butch Cassidy—a Mormon, born in the 1860s in Utah, and on the hunt for adventure.  So it’s understandable they would hook up.  In August of 1896, they—along with Elzy Lay—robbed a bank in Montpelier, Idaho.

In April 1897, the trio hit a mining payroll at Castle Gate, Utah.  But time was running out for Meeks. Two months later, he was arrested in Wyoming, sent to Idaho, convicted and imprisoned. Cassidy reportedly planned to break Bub out but the plan didn’t materialize.
