clint eastwoodPale Rider was Clint Eastwood’s 1985 tribute/remake of the classic Western Shane.  It made more money than any other Western produced and distributed in the 1980s.

Eastwood’s previous oater, The Outlaw Josey Wales, came out nearly a decade earlier, in 1976.  That’s a little surprising, considering how much the actor/director had been connected to the genre since the start of his career in 1955.  And he would do only one other traditional Western: Unforgiven in 1992.

Why?  Turns out the Man With No Name is allergic to horses, a condition that showed up in midlife.
