How Hot was That Coffee?

If there was one thing no cowboy could do without it was his coffee. A pot was always on the campfire, and every cabin cherished its supply of coffee beans like they were gold. One feature of cowboy coffee that’s often overlooked is that these guys liked it HOT—not just ordinary hot, but hot­hot.

That often created problems for ladies who came west and were shocked by the undrinkable temperature. But the story goes a helpful cowboy in a train depot one day helped out a damsel in distress, when he offered her a sip of his coffee “that’s already saucered and blowed.”
