Belle Starr rented land to Edgar Watson in 1889, but then wanted him out. She threatened to reveal that he was wanted for murder in Florida. Watson left…maybe.
On February 3, 1889 somebody ambushed Belle near her home. Reportedly, footprints nearby matched Watson’s. And Belle was killed with a shotgun; Watson was known to carry one. The suspect was tried but there were no witnesses and he was acquitted.
Watson went back to Florida, where he was suspected in several more killings over the next few years. He was killed in a gunfight in 1910.
