West Texas book cover

Texas Tech University Press has recently published West Texas author Joyce Gibson Roach new collection of short stories The Land of Rain Shadows: Horned Toad, Texas. Roach, a retired professor, noted Texas folklorist and award winning author, is a native of Jacksboro, Jack County, Texas, has spent a lifetime writing about her beloved Southern Plains and the eight short stories are reminiscent of the best fiction of Tom Lea, Larry McMurtry and Max Evans. Anyone who has traveled through West Texas or made it their home for one or many generations will be inspired by Roach’s prose and find her fictional Horned Toad, Texas, very familiar.
