Talk about six degrees of separation. Although, in a tight cattle community in Wyoming’s Hoback Basin of Sublette County, it only makes sense. The author once worked for the Pape Ranch, a third-generation ranching outfit in the area.
In turn, Jensen got to know the land, the history and well, everybody; he now calls the area home. The Campbells are another third-generation ranching family, and nearby are the folks at the Little Jennie Ranch, another legend in the making. Throughout this narrative are the stories of the men and women of Hoback Basin legend: Charlie Noble, one of the first in the basin, Dead Shot Swenson, the Dane with imagination, and “Peck” May, the ol’ hand for the Pape Ranch. This book is a fine tribute to ranchers by an obviously respectful cowboy. —Linda Wommack
