Christopher Olsen Maniac #599 Burlington, Wisconsin Jim Miller—a churchgoing, quiet man who abstained from alcohol and tobacco—was probably the most infamous killer for hire in the Old West.  “Deacon” (or “Killer Miller” or “Killin’ Jim”) had at least eight murders to his credit; Miller himself claimed the total was around 50.
